In physical wellbeing

We’ve talked about routine a lot in our recent Discover Your Bounce sessions, especially our new Sleep Sessions that have proved to be quite popular. So in today’s blog I wanted to share with you some of our favourite routines that will help you have more energy and bounce!

From the smallest insects all the way up to the planets and the universe, everything runs by a set of routines or cycles. They’re especially useful in helping us know what to expect from our bodies – we’ll eat food and eventually need the bathroom, we’ll have a long day and eventually need sleep. This also helps us work out what our bodies need from us to ensure these routines don’t get disrupted and it’s very important we provide these things. A lack of them is when we start to lose energy and often become ill or stressed. So here are my top 3 healthy routines you should start today!

Drink more waterglass of water

Our bodies are usually between 50-75% water, dropping to as little as 45% in obese people. That stat alone shows you that water can play an important role in the overall health of your body, yet we avoid drinking it – instead preferring fizzy drinks and caffeine.

Today (and every day after that) I’m asking you to swap just 1 of your daily drinks with a glass of water, because even the smallest step will help you. Have a bottle of water that you can carry around with you and simply keep topping it up. That way it becomes a subconscious habit rather than something you have to keep reminding yourself to do.

Go to bed and wake up at the same time every dayuse an alarm clock to set your routine

We all love a lie-in on our days off, but we’re actually making it harder to wake up come Monday morning. By going to bed and waking up at the same time you’re training your body to a routine that it can stick to. This is especially helpful if you struggle to get to sleep at night, as your body will start winding down as it gets closer to bedtime.

For just one week try setting a bedtime and sticking to it, then scrap the weekend lie-in as well. Make it realistic – you want it late enough that evening activities don’t run past your bedtime too often (the occasional night out is okay) but not so late you’ll struggle to get up the next day. See what results you get and I’m sure it’s a habit you’ll want to stick to!

Eat more fruit and vegetablesfruit salad and fresh vegetables

Our bodies rely on the nutrients we get from our food to perform even the most basic of functions to survive and sadly with our convenience food obsession as a culture, we’re eliminating a large percentage of those nutrients from our diet. We can combat this by introducing more fresh fruit and vegetables to our diet to fill in the gap.

You don’t have to start eating salads daily straight away but, as with the water, try to introduce just one new fruit or vegetable to your diet each day. Find ways to add them to your evening meal or make them your mid-morning snack. Mix it up a little and don’t stick to the same ones either, pick a new one each day so that your body will get a variety of nutrients.

Nothing I’ve said here is rocket science. You’ll have heard it all before and quite possibly you rolled your eyes as you read through this blog. But I promise you these are habits that will make a real, tangible difference to your energy levels. Try them for a week and see!

If you’re struggling with your energy levels and find your sleep routine has been disrupted why not try our new Sleep Sessions?
