With the summer upon us many are resigning themselves to the sweaty, inevitability of sleepless nights that accompany the bronze glow we all crave. One solution is to buy a fan and run it 24/7 in your bedroom, but that leads to high electricity bills and peeling skin faster than you can jump awake after that falling dream we all dread!
So how do you get a good nights’ rest during the summer? Read on to find out!
Blackout Blinds & Clever Curtains
Blackout blinds will keep the sun from entering your room on early mornings and getting you up at the crack of dawn. By keeping your bedroom as dark as possible you can get up with your alarm instead of the lark!
Also pay attention to where the sun is throughout the day. Close the curtains on all windows that are getting direct sunlight and open the ones that are blessed with shade and do the same for opening and closing the windows. This will not only keep your bedroom cool, but the house itself too, meaning you’re less hot and flustered when the time comes.
Water, Water, Water!
I can and will find a way to make this a tip in every blog I write for the rest of eternity unless you take my advice, so take it now and save us some time. 😉 Drinking water – especially chilled – will keep your natural body temperature throughout the day so no nasty overheating occurs. Just remember to stop a little while before bed unless you plan to make some nighttime bathroom visits!
Plenty Of Exercise
It becomes harder to stay awake if you’re truly tired – both physically and mentally. We often leave ourselves mentally exhausted without being active enough to tire our bodies, so do yourself a favour and get out in the sunshine. Walk, run, tennis, swimming in a lake, I don’t care how you do it but work up a healthy sweat to catch a good night of sleep tonight.
Take A Bath

Cats need smaller baths than humans.
Hop in the tub approximately 90 minutes before bedtime to induce a rapid drop in body temperature. Don’t have a cold bath – we’re not trying to bring on hypothermia here! A normal bath will naturally cause a drop in body temperature, so if you time it just right you’ll find yourself cooling off at the perfect time for crawling into bed.
Conclusion
People are always on the hunt for magic tricks that will get them through the night, but in reality it’s a few smart purchases, a well timed bath and a healthy lifestyle that will do you the most good. And most of all remember not to stress out as this will only keep you awake longer.
